Tip 1
Title?
The Comptia Security+ exam will test the candidate’s knowledge on a wide range of security topics and objectives. Despite the diversity of topics that you are expected to know, many of these topics apply to Home use, Small Offices and Large Enterprises alike. Take the opportunity to visualize subnets and how the IP address is used secure network segments. See how a few simple steps can secure your Wi-Fi network from intrusion. There is plenty of information about how to implement permissions, shares and group policy. Get a first-and look at a Windows interface as well as a Linux command prompt. Explore the wide range of methods that can be used to physically secure a facility and learn how to defeat a Social Engineering attack. The knowledge from this can enhance a candidate’s career but it may also give someone the know-how to secure technology in their own life.
Tip 2
Title?
The Security+ exam is used to assess candidates’ knowledge on basic security concepts and best practices. This is considered a CompTIA core entry-level exam, but is not an easy test to pass.
Become Familiar with the Security+ Domains
The Security+ domains include:
1.0 Threats, Attacks, and Vulnerabilities
2.0 Technologies and Tools
3.0 Architecture and Design
4.0 Identity and Access Management
5.0 Risk Management
6.0 Cryptography and PKI
Tip 3
Create a list of the domains and individual items to review within each domain.
For example, under architecture and design, list a few bullets for firewalls, IDSs, routers, etc. Then gather study materials that best fit your student’s study needs. If you have an area that your students are weak in, study that first. It is often best to start with the most challenging concepts. Once they master them, it will set the tone and pace for the rest of the domains they need to study. Ensure they have mastered one domain before moving to the next. As you move through the domains, many concepts will overlap, which can speed up the study process.
Tip 4
CANVAS Practice Tests
As for practice exam test results, do not be discouraged. Unless you are an experienced test taker, it is quite common for things to go sour during the first round of questions, especially if you are not done with your reading and prep course. Take your time to study and use every resource available to clarify any doubts. By the end of your study plan, you will see consistent results on practice exams.
Learning to ace the CompTIA course with REAL questions that can be found on REAL exams is a huge boost to morale. Practice exams for the CompTIA SYS-501 are available through this GetCertified website. Registration is found under the Exam Prep menu tab. Once registration is submitted through the GetCertified website, a link will be sent to the student (within 24 hours of their registration receipt) via email for access to the practice exams on the Canvas website. Holding a 85% competency level on the simulation exams will help your students feel cheerful and bold on Exam day, instead of fearful and stressed.
Tip 5
What Are the Most Important Changes to the Exam?
The SY0-501 exam is designed to enhance the efforts to improve risk mitigation and risk management. An updated version greatly emphasizes hands-on and practical abilities of the cybersecurity professionals to identify and address the cybersecurity security attacks, threats, and vulnerabilities.
In the modern digital world, cybersecurity jobs are becoming imperative for the IT infrastructure of enterprises. The SY0-501 exam also covers vital skills, such as security analytics, that have become a baseline for all the cybersecurity jobs. In addition, 25% of the exam contents has been changed and the new material is now both deeper and broader. The older technologies have been replaced with the next-generation tools. The expanded areas include ransomware, spyware, various other attacks, and threat identification skills. In addition, the PKI concept is incorporated within the cryptography domain. The credential changes are based on the job tasks analysis (JTA) survey that CompTIA periodically conducts with its members and partner organizations. Furthermore, the subject matter expert workshops were conducted with regard to the knowledge and skills required of an IT expert.
